Fenugreek
is a small annual herb grows up to 60cm
in height, Plant stems are long and slender.
Leaves are trifoliate, toothed and grey-green
in color. Fenugreek seed pods contain about
ten to twenty flat, pungent and aromatic
small stony seeds. These seeds are oblong
shaped and yellow-brown in color.
Fenugreek seeds have a strong aroma and
slightly bitter in taste. Its largely employed
Worldwide as a spice to flavors food, and
also used as a medicine, to treat diabetes
in adults (late-onset diabetes), poor digestion,
gastric inflammation, digestive disorders
and fevers. It is also used for the treatment
of wounds, abscesses, arthritis and bronchitis.
It has excellent medicinal virtues. Chinese
herbalists used it for kidney problems.
Its also used to produce yellow dye.
